Summary
This exclusive 180-room resort is the oldest in the Maldives, which opened its doors around 1972 in an old coconut plantation surrounded by white sand beaches. An easy ride from the airport – just 10 minutes by boat – Kurumba isn’t the most peaceful of settings, nor does it have the most attractive views due to an artificial barrier for protection. Despite these two shortfalls, the resort offers plenty, including eight restaurants, three bars, two pools, and a modern spa. It appeals to families, the kids’ club with babysitting services, and couples, thanks to wine tastings and sunset jazz offerings. Nine renovated rooms have basic contemporary decor, open-air patios, and large open-air bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. The team works hard to keep things fresh – a case in point, the elegant Thila restaurant, which opened in 2014, ranks among the best in the Maldives. Various meal packages are on offer to keep dining costs in check. You can also get comparable rates with Kuredu Island Resort and Kihaad Maldives, though keep in mind that both are farther from the airport and more expensive to reach.

Summary
Built-in 1998, this resort stands out for its reasonable rates (among the lowest for this caliber in the Maldives), above-average food, and plentiful restaurants and services. Rooms are a bit basic (no minibars and a fee for Wi-Fi), and the extra flight from Male can be inconvenient, but Reethi Beach is an excellent upper-middle-range choice overall. Rooms are nicer than the similarly priced Sun Island Resort. Still, those looking for a good all-inclusive value might want to consider the pricier and more upscale Kuredu Island Resort.

Summary
Open since 2013, this well-run resort near the airport has 140 rooms, either along the beach or over the water on stilts (reached via a long pier). Thailand-based Centara has two properties in the Maldives, both known for offering luxury accommodations at competitive prices. This one, in particular, is geared toward young couples (no guests under 12 allowed). It’s not the prettiest island or the best reef for snorkeling, but its service is exceptional, a rarity at this price point. The buffet serves a broad mix of European and Asian cuisine, while three a la carte restaurants (Thai, Italian, and Middle Eastern) and three bars keep the fun and continental mood going. Both half-board and all-inclusive rates are on offer. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, DVD players, bathrobes, and 24-hour room service, but there are no umbrellas on the private villa terraces, and it gets hot in the afternoon sun. Luckily there are plenty of water activities, including an excellent dive center for first-timers. Wi-Fi is free.
